Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Review

“Gonna take you for a ride!”

Dubbed “one of the best fighting games of all time” Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Xbox Arcade brings a new look and feel to the game as it never has before. When I heard about the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in HD for the Xbox 360 Arcade, I couldn’t help but think about the good old days when I had my Sega Dreamcast. I only bought the Dreamcast for MVC2. I wondered whether or not the recent release could still hold up after almost 10 years after the initial game. I will sum it up in two words. It does.

Game Play

With a total number of 56 playable characters that are featured from both Marvel and Capcom universes, the 3-on-3 tag-team matches are just as they were almost a decade ago. All the combos from the previous version came rushing back as if it were yesterday.

The basic game play has gone unchanged from the original MVC2. Any old time fans of this game will have no problems at all with the new four-button layout. Everyone knows that MVC2 is good playing alone. But everyone also knows it’s even better when competition is thrown in the mix.

With the all-new, long awaited online play, people from all over the world can have their very own MVC2 tournament. The online play is pretty much flawless. Just be ready to play against people who have been playing MVC2 for 10 years straight.

Graphics

The widescreen capabilities that MVC2 provides does not affect the gameplay, but does cut off some of the special moves at the old 4:3 aspect ratio. The old game backgrounds have now been rendered in HD but sometimes do not match up with the new widescreen.

The game allows you to add filters to the characters like Crisp, Smooth, and Classic.

The Crisp filter makes characters look modern, but still keeps sharp edges of the characters. The Smooth filter makes the characters look a little blurry and not as blocky. The Classic look makes them look, well, classic. All filters removed for all the original fans that liked the game just as it was.

Overall

Just like the first one, MVC2 is great game from beginning to end. Well, there is really no ending with the online multiplayer. This game is definitely worth the $15.00 price tag and will bring hours upon hours of new game play and though competitions.  A MUST HAVE.
